Buying a Home
This template is based on a $300,000 house with a 20% down payment and an interest rate of 6.875% for a 30-year fixed mortgage. For this YNABer, they were glad to have reserves set aside when a mold issue meant a change in moving plans and thousands of dollars to fix the issue. This YNABer also highly recommended getting three quotes for everything, and they did their homework to get the best price in their area for every part of the moving whirlwind. Advice: "Dad said to always have $8,000 for surprise maintenance and repairs with a house. $5,000 is probably too small and $10,000 is probably too much."
