Dustyn Roberts
By day, I teach students about mechanical engineering at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, where I live with my partner, two kids, and two cats. On the side, I teach people about money.
My Background
I’m a Practice Associate Professor at the University of Pennsylvania, an Ivy League school in Philadelphia, PA where I teach classes primarily in the mechanical engineering department. I’ve helped put a couple of robots on Mars, designed and launched a rocket across a canyon in Africa, and made a guitar-playing robot (among other things). I’m a huge bike nerd and ride my electric cargo bike around the city most days (often with a kid on the back).
Why Work with Me
Everyone who finished 8th grade has the math skills to manage their money confidently, but most of us don’t. That’s where Fiscal Therapy comes in. Not sure what financial coaching is? Think of me as a personal trainer for your money. I help you learn about money and create systems that work for you and your family, whether that’s you and a house plant or any number of partners, kids, pets, aging parents, etc.
Why I Coach
I discovered YNAB in 2013 and it changed my life. I didn’t grow up with strong money role models and was living paycheck to paycheck in NYC at the time. YNAB helped me weather tough times (layoff, divorce), plan for good times (travel, kids), and has brought me incredible peace of mind. I started coaching my siblings and friends informally and enjoyed the process so much that I took the YNAB coaching certification course so I could formalize my understanding of the software and process and coach more people.
